Voice for Justice rescued Hoorab, a 13 year old Christian girl in Pakistan, from her kidnapper and
brought her to safety. After being abducted in late 2022 by 29-year-old Usman, who worked at a
local store, Hoorab was forced under severe psychological pressure and abuse to convert to
Islam. This conversion enabled Usman, under sharia law, to forcibly “marry” her despite her
young age. After the “marriage,” Hoorab endured daily sexual assault, physical abuse, and
forced labor.
When Hoorab’s father discovered her disappearance, he reported the case to the police.
However, despite his efforts, authorities initially sided with Usman, accepting his falsified
documents claiming Hoorab was 18 years old and that their marriage was legitimate. Usman
also threatened Hoorab, warning her against revealing the truth to the police.
In Pakistan, when a Christian girl is forcibly converted to Islam, the system often turns against
her family, making the legal battle feel like swimming against the current. Lawyers, judges, and
police are frequently reluctant to help, viewing it as a religious duty to protect the Muslim
“husband” and uphold the girl’s new faith rather than support her Christian family.
Voice for Justice’s legal team intervened, revealing that Hoorab had been coerced into signing
documents claiming she converted willingly and consented to marriage. With pressure from
Voice for Justice’s lawyers and international support, the police eventually placed Hoorab back
in a shelter and detained Usman. Voice for Justice’s representatives remained in close contact
with local authorities, international media, and supporters to ensure Hoorab’s case received
necessary attention. Finally, in February, Usman confessed that his actions were unlawful,
resulting in the official annulment of the “marriage.”
After being released, Hoorab was sheltered in a Voice for Justice safe house, Hoorab is safe and
receiving psychological support to help her heal from the trauma of her captivity and abuse.
She, along with her siblings, is also receiving education to continue her studies and rebuild her
future.
Voice for Justice is resolute in its fight for justice, not only for Hoorab but for other Christian girls
in Pakistan who are at risk of similar abductions and forced conversions. Through ongoing
advocacy and legal action, they aim to bring greater awareness and accountability for these
crimes. Voice for Justice expresses its gratitude for the prayers and support that empower them
to help persecuted families in need.
