Voice for Justice rescued Hoorab, a 13 year old Christian girl in Pakistan, from her kidnapper and brought her to safety. After being abducted in late 2022 by 29-year-old Usman, who worked at a local store, Hoorab was forced under severe psychological pressure and abuse to convert to Islam. This conversion enabled Usman, under sharia law, to forcibly “marry” her despite her young age. After the “marriage,” Hoorab endured daily sexual assault, physical abuse, and forced labor.
When Hoorab’s father discovered her disappearance, he reported the case to the police. However, despite his efforts, authorities initially sided with Usman, accepting his falsified documents claiming Hoorab was 18 years old and that their marriage was legitimate. Usman also threatened Hoorab, warning her against revealing the truth to the police.
In Pakistan, when a Christian girl is forcibly converted to Islam, the system often turns against her family, making the legal battle feel like swimming against the current. Lawyers, judges, and police are frequently reluctant to help, viewing it as a religious duty to protect the Muslim “husband” and uphold the girl’s new faith rather than support her Christian family.
